Barton Leo Soucy, 75, USMC/Vietnam - Menifee/RNC - 01 Nov
« on: October 29, 2024, 07:08:21 PM »
The family of Barton Leo Soucy has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their hero to his final military honors.  It will be our privilege to fulfill their request.

Barton served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1972.  He rejoined the Marines after a four-year hiatus and continued his service until his retirement in 1992. He served in Iwakuni, Japan and Vietnam. Our hero’s MOS was 2847, inside plant, telephone and switching systems. He was a Chief Warrant Officer (WO2) at the conclusion of his proud service.

Between his enlistments in the USMC, Barton worked in television production in Okinawa.  His work allowed him to live in Okinawa, Connecticut, and London.  While in England, he was on the development team for the software program “Shazam,” a music identifying application.  Barton also worked for Sonic Foundry, an information tech company that developed the professional sound editing software “Vegas.”  In later years he was working remotely in California providing his technical expertise to the Pentagon.

Barton enjoyed reading and watching movies (especially Sci-FI).  He and his family traveled frequently, often back to Okinawa where his daughter was born.

Barton is survived by the love of his life, Matsuyo, whom he met and married in Japan, and their daughter, Stephanie Ramos and her husband, Francisco Ramos.  He is survived by his sister, Candide O'Cain, and brother, Mathew Soucy.  He was preceded by his parents, Margaret and Leo Soucy.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, approximately 14 miles.  Please see the timetable if you would like to participate.  For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum.  Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
