LTC Richard C. Dickson does not have any family to attend his services, so some very special people, Richard's friends and neighbors, are assuring Richard receives the honors he so richly deserves.  The Patriot Guard Riders is honored to participate and be part of Richard's family.

Richard joined the Army 16 JUN 58 and rose the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was honorably discharged 31 MAR 79.  Richard served one non-combat tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with one oak leave cluster, and the Air Medal.

On 9 MAR 70 , then MAJ Richard Dickson was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action on 14 DEC 69 while serving in Vietnam.  MAJ Dickson's company was ambushed, one soldier killed and six others wounded.  Without hesitation MAJ Dickson called in a evacuation helicopter for the wounded.  With the majority of his troops pinned down by intense machine gun, rocket and mortar fire, MAJ Dickson continually exposed himself to intense enemy fire as he directed the air strikes and gunship attacks against a well fortified Viet Cong.

After retiring from the Army, Richard enjoyed spending time with his many friends, traveling, photography, boating/skiing, computers and electronics, and his Labrador  Retrievers.
