The family of Sgt Adan J. Olid has invited Patriot Guard Riders to attend his services and honor him, and it will be our privilege to do so.
Sgt Adan Olid was a Marine Corps Rifleman who volunteered to serve 3 tours in Iraq, in 2004, 2005, and 2007. He served in the USMC from 2003 to 2011, most of that time with the 2/7 "War Dog" Battalion, and his last assignment was at MCRD in San Diego where he was a Ceremonial Guardsman. Sgt Olid was a Purple Heart recipient. He also continued to remain active with his 2/7 combat brothers and their families.
After leaving the Marines, he served as a Peer Support Specialist, for other veterans affected by PTSD, at Department of Veterans Affairs (Government Administration) in San Diego and Albany, NY.
Sgt Adan Olid was recently featured in an Associated Press story about a therapeutic song writing program for veterans coping with trauma. In interviews Sgt Olid spoke about close calls and seeing friends die during three tours in Iraq and how that effected him.
We will meet at Greenwood Mortuary & Cemetery, 4300 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113 and do a Flag Line, then accompany Sgt Olid to Miramar National Cemetery for a Flag Line and Final Honors.
