The family of Ernest “Ernie” G. DeLaurie, 78, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this veteran for his service to his community and his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Ernie was born January 21, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for four years before joining the San Bernardino County Sheriff Office in 1959. He served for 32 years, retiring as an Assistant Sheriff in 1991. Ernie was also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Va.
During his career with the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department Ernie served in the Jail Division, Fontana Station, Big Bear Station, Vice/Narcotics Division, Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, Detective Division, and Commander of the Sheriff’s Underwater Search and Recovery Team. He served as Commander of the Big Bear Substation from June 1968 to January 1983.
While living in Big Bear Lake, Ernie and his wife Marilyn raised their four children and were active members of the community.
Ernie loved to go camping, hunting, motorcycles, horseback riding, roping and riding in rodeos, long distance running, bicycling, swimming, hiking, snow shoeing and sailing. He also collected and restored various cars (Corvettes), trucks (Fords), and motorcycles.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn DeLaurie, their 4 children - Sue Reynolds, Shari Meier, Theresa Gellens and Jeffrey DeLaurie and 11 grandchildren.
The family is asking for an accompaniment from the family home in Del Cerro to Ernie's final resting place, Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 14 miles.
