The family of John Joseph “Jake” Scanlon IV US Navy Retired, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their loved one at his services. We are honored to accept this invitation. On the 30th of April 2015 we will accompany our Hero and his family from American Legion in Ridgecrest, ca. to the All Faith Chapel at the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, ca. After the service will accompany him home.
John Joseph “Jake” Scanlon IV was born on June 29, 1947 in Torrington, Connecticut. Jake joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 as an Aviation Ordnancemen. After 22 years of faithful service Jake retired from the US Navy as a Senior Chief Ordnancemen (AOCS). The U.S. Navy took Jake many places during his career. Of which Naval Air Station China Lake, ca. and Point Mugu Naval Air Station, ca. VX-4. After his naval career Jake started working in the Ventura County area supporting the Aviation Ordnance Logistics Branch at Point Mugu and Camarillo, California as a contractor and Civil Service combining 35 years. In 2009 he moved to Ridgecrest, ca. and served as the Deputy APML for the AGM-88 HARM Program and relocated to China Lake from Point Mugu during BRAC 2005.
Jake was a total family man, he loved visiting, getting letters and phone calls from his children and grandchildren. Jake will always be remembered as an outstanding father, exceptional mentor, friendly, levelheaded, even-keeled, grandfather, husband, uncle, shipmate and coworker.
Jake is survived by his forever loving wife Sheryl Scanlon and sons, Daniel and John Scanlon, sisters, Cindy Scanlon-Mercier, Judy Scanlon-Agogliate and Lisa Scanlon-Klonoski,
nephew’s, niece’s, grandson’s, granddaughter’s, great grandson, numerous family members, and many friends he called family.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the Funeral Home to the church, and then to his final resting place. A short accompaniment. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the church, or the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
