The family of Michiel "Dutch" Gude aka Gufrink, age 75, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders, to attend his memorial service and Military Honors as he makes his final journey. It is our honor to participate.
Dutch, as he was known to all his friend, served in the US ARMY from 1968 to 1971 and was discharged as a Sgt. E-5.
Michiel Gude was born in Indonesia on January 23, 1940 and passed to eternal life on June 13, 2015.
Dutch leaves behind is wife of 44 years, Mirtha, an 4 children.
Dutch was a member of the 173rd Airborne with Eco Recon 1/503 in Vietnam. In 1969 while on patrol, the unit ran into some landmines suffering many casualties. Dutch lost part of his leg in that action and all were separated. During his tour of duty he was awarded The Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts, The Air Medal, CIB and a Ranger Tab. Michiel was also an 82nd Airborne Raider. In April of 2014, the four survivors of that patrol were reunited for the first time since the incident.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the funeral home to his final resting place. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).
