The family of Richard Carl Clemens Sr. has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero for his service and sacrifice to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Richard served his country as a Marine Sgt (E5) in Vietnam from April 1966-May 1969. He spent most of his tour as a gunner. He was briefly captured but managed to escape and return to his unit. He was riding guard detail for an ammo shipment when a 105mm round exploded causing wounds that led to his medical discharge. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After Richard was discharged he worked as an accountant, handy man and raised his two sons as a single dad. He enjoyed model trains taking his sons to train museums and expos. He was an avid gun and knife collector. Richard was proud of his service with the Marines and drove a Marine Tribute Truck covered with Marine emblems and stickers that also played the Marine Corps Hymn for a horn.
Richard is survived by his wife of 3 years, Jeanette, his two sons Richard Jr. and Kenny and 3 grandchildren.
