The family of PO1 Alfred Wayne Hurndon has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the services of their loved one and honor this American Hero. We are honored to attend.

Wayne, as he liked to be called, served in the US Navy from Aug 1972 – Oct 1993 and acquired the rank of PO1/AO1.  He served in the Vietnam War on board USS HANCOCK.  He had several additional sea tours on USS CORAL SEA, USS KITTY HAWK and USS RANGER.  He was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal in 1981 for participation in the rescue and rendering of aid to occupants of 5 refugee boats while transitioning the South China Sea while onboard the USS KITTY HAWK.

In civilian life Wayne enjoyed building things whether they were computers, VW car engines, or woodwork.  He loved travel, especially cruises and long road trips.

PO1 Alfred Wayne Hurndon is survived by Rosalinda Hurndon of San Diego; daughter Laura Gwinn of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Adrienne and Thomas Williams of Columbia, MD; daughter Samantha Hurndon of San Diego; sisters Wanda Hurndon McKibben and Karen Bibby of Albany, GA; grandchildren Lisa, Erica, Jacob and Evelyn.
