The PGR in So Calif has been invited by the USMC and the family to accompany SSgt Eric W. Summers from the mortuary in Fallbrook, CA to the airport in San Diego, CA as he is flown to his home state of Missouri.

SSgt Summers is one of the 4 Marines who were killed on base at Camp Pendleton last month while clearing a detonation area used for training purposes.
 
Staff Sgt. Eric W. Summers, 32, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician assigned to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Platoon, Airfield Operations Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, stationed aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. He joined the Marine Corps in July 2000, and was promoted to his current rank in October 2010. Summers’ awards include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, three Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan. He deployed to Kuwait in 2003, Iraq in 2004 and three times to Afghanistan in 2009, 2011 and 2012 as a team leader.
 
Eric grew up in Poplar Bluff, MO and graduated in 1999 from Poplar Bluff High School, he attended Three Rivers College 1 year then enlisted in the USMC in 2000.  Eric excelled in golf in High School and his coach says that Eric was a very good leader, had great integrity and was a great person you could always rely on.  Eric still loved golf and played with his dad and his old coach as recently as this last summer.
 
SSgt Eric W. Summers is survived by his wife, Andrea, his 2 yr old daughter Alexia, his parents Wayne and Melodie Summers, and his brother Darren Summers.
 
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the airport. Please see the time table if you would like to participate.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
