The family of
Richard Eugene Marx has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Rick Marx, 68, served his country in the US Army from 1969 to 1970, time that included combat duty in Vietnam. At the time of his discharge he had attained the rank of Specialist 4th Class (E-4).
For his service Rick was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
This hero made the ultimate sacrifice for his country as he passed from cancer caused by his exposure to Agent Orange while on combat duty in Vietnam. He spent the last four years of his life researching his disease and allowed himself to be part of experimental treatment with the hope other veterans exposed to Agent Orange would not have to suffer the way he had. Despite the treatments, he continued to smile, joke and enjoy his life until its end.
This hero's family has requested an accompaniment from the family home in Del Mar to Miramar National Cemetery. We are honored.
NOTE: This is a Combat Related Mission, there will be tags.NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the family home to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
