The family of CDR Oloff Lee Hansen, DC, USN (Ret) has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor him for his service to our country. It would be our honor to do so.

CDR Oloff Lee Hansen joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served until 1954 in the enlisted ranks. In 1962 he joined the Navy Dental Corps Ready Reserve and in 1970 went on Active Duty, serving until his retirement in 1993. During his many years of service, Oloff served at a wide variety of duty stations, to include many ships, overseas stations and the Marines. These include the following: USNAS Tongue Pont, OR; USNAS Adak; USS Prairie AD-15 with a TAD to USNS Sasebo, Japan; the Korean Naval Station at Chinha; Camp Pendleton for FMF training; a tour with the Ninth Marines; training at the Naval Station, San Diego, CA; USMCA Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; USS Vulcan AR-5; USNAS South Weymouth (USS Constitution); NAVSECRRUACT Northwest; USNS Norfolk, VA; USNS Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; FMFPC Camp Pendleton, CA and MCAS El Toro, CA.

From U.S. Navy Medicine Vol. 69, No. 8 August 1978: LCDR Oloff L. Hansen (DC) has good reason to smile, having been awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for his performance while serving as dental officer with Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Brigade, in Hawaii. Throughout that assignment, says his citation, Dr. Hansen "consistently performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. Displaying exceptional initiative and resourcefulness, he continually provided outstanding dental service, and was instrumental in obtaining and implementing the use of a mobile dental van. . . . His program resulted in saving untold man-hours by having dental service available in the immediate vicinity of each squadron."

Dr. Hansen was a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Endodontics, Delta Sigma Delta International Dental Fraternity, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Military Surgeons of the United States, and the Academy of General Dentistry. CDR Hansen was the Mayor of Vernonia, Oregon.  He also held the Presidency of the Lion’s Club and the Elks Club for many years.  His hobbies include deep sea fishing, golfing, and going for long Sunday drives with his family.  Exploring the regions of his duty stations was always a priority.  He purchased a Winnebago and the family would religiously head off for weekend exploring destinations with motorcycles and dune buggy in tow.

Oloff leaves behind his dedicated Military Spouse and Loving Wife of 61 years, Arlene Hansen. Also his three daughters: Wendy Smith, Cendy Hansen, and Mendy Murry along with 8 grand and great-grandchildren.
