The family of Paul Edmund Cornish, 70, has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this American Hero; it will be our honor to do so.

Our Hero served honorably with the United States Marine Corps from 27 JUL 65 to 25 JUL 69 and achieved the rank of Sgt. While serving with the United States Marines Paul served in combat in the Vietnam War.

He was an Enrolled Tax Agent for 35 years, and managed H & R Block offices before meeting Deborah, his life partner. Together they started their own business, Cornish Tax Services, which they operated for 27 years until retirement.  He loved making and building things, he built many bicycles and helped others with the same.  He loved cycling, gardening and projects of all kinds.

He was a World Class cyclist and in 1973 held the original Guinness World Record for riding his bicycle from LA to NY in 13 days, 5 hours, 20 minutes. He was a mentor to many, teaching them cycling, including his own grandchildren. Sadly, he was killed when he was hit by a car on his bicycle on 31 Aug 17 in Oceanside.

Paul Cornish is survived by his life companion of 27 years, Deborah Porter, daughter Tessa, son Ethan, Deborah's children Daniel and Jennifer, who he helped to raise, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren with a 3rd on the way.

Paul was also a friend of our Ride Captain.
