The family of Jacob (Jack) Green, 93, has invited the PGR to help honor the life and service of this
WWII Purple Heart recipient. We are privileged and honored to do so!
Jack joined the US Army in 1943. He served with the 65th infantry and was wounded in the beach landing in La Harve, France. Jack spent two & half years in Valley Forge Hospital recovering from his wounds. He was honorably discharged as a PFC in 1947.
Jack lived a full life with many careers. He worked on the Apollo Space Program or "The Man on the Moon Project" as he called it. He received a letter of recognition from President Ronald Regan for his accomplishments in support of the Apollo program. He actually was credited with saving a launch, that was almost canceled, by correcting a malfunctioning component at the last minute.
He helped build one of the first communication systems for coal mines, in Europe, so that the surface could talk to the miners in the mine shafts. For his work he recieved a commendation from the Dutch government.
Jack retired from Cal State Fullerton working in the Biology department building and maintaining test equipment.
This last April Jack visited his brother Leo Green's grave at the American Cemetery in Luxembourg. His Brother Leo was KIA at the Battle of the Bulge six day's after Jack received his injuries.
