How do we say THANK YOU for an experience that leaves you speechless with happy tears that overflow with gratitude for the dignity and honor shown to our beloved soldier hero, Ivan Sykes?

For our family, this was our first experience of a military internment. Pictures and magazines can never capture the awe, beauty, and emotion of such an event.

We can still hear the deep roar of the motorcycles entering the gate and the first glimpse of them rounding the corner to our door, the escort from the door through a tunnel of salutes and flags to the car, and again as Ivan’s remains were carried to rest. It will be etched in our minds and hearts forever.

We are also grateful for the cherished gift of the empty artillery shells from the South Pacific – and for the personal attention you showed from the very beginning to the very end of the service. We are humbled, moved and overwhelmed by the gift of your time so selflessly volunteered to honor the life of a total stranger.

Thank you for your service to our country, to our family, and for the honor and dignity you give to the families of the fallen.

With Love and Gratitude,

Marilyn Sykes & Family
