The family of Dallas Dewey Martin invites the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their loved one home, we are honored to do so.

Mr. Martin was born 8 Dec 23 in Katemcy, TX. Around the age of 8 years old his family moved to Long Beach, CA. To earn money he would shine shoes for the Navy personnel. He loved the Navy uniforms and wanted to be just like them.

In 1940 he joined the Navy and flew the Grumman F6F Hellcat in the Battle of Midway. Returning from a mission (sorte) he was out of fuel and found the aircraft carrier too badly damaged to land and had to ditch his plane in the Pacific. He was shot down twice by the Japanese. The first time the Americans found and rescued him. The second time (1945) he was found by the Japanese and was a POW until the end of the war (about 7 months) and weighed 78 pounds upon his release. Mr. Martin was honorably discharged in 1946.

Following his heroic military career, Mr. Martin became an actor, known by the name of Dewey Martin, co-staring with the likes of Kirk Douglas, Humphrey Bogart and Dean Martin. In 1960 he played Daniel Boone in Walt Disney's television series, Daniel Boone.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Tiko; stepsons John and Kevin Sheridan; one grandson and two granddaughters.
