The family of Henry Lewis Short has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this American Hero; it will be our honor to do so.

Henry was born in Mechanicsburg, Illinois on 24 February 1929 and entered into Eternal Rest on 11 February 2015.

Henry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from October 1951 to October 1953 during the Korean War. Henry did his basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Henry was scheduled and ready to go to Korea with his troops but due to his carpentry skills he was kept in the States.  He was very creative and was recognized for inventing a rifle stock that was used at the time. Henry was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

After his military discharge from the military, he became a General Contractor and an excellent cabinet maker.

Henry is survived by his daughters Susan and Vicki. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Henry’s wife Winona passed away one year and nine months after his death and will be interred together at Riverside National Cemetery.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the Family Residence in Murrieta to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
