The family of Fire Control Technician Senior Chief Petty Officer Leonard D Gefken has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

FTCS Leonard Gefken, 80, proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1978. He attained the rank of FTCS (Fire Control Technician Senior Chief Petty Officer).  While in the Navy he served as a Weapons Systems Tech aboard the Leahy-class guided missile destroyer USS England (DLG-22) during deployment to the West-Pac/Vietnam.

For his service he was awarded the Combat action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, 5 Good Conduct medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm and Frame, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, several Letters of Commendation (including copy from 7th Fleet for performance during combat operations).

Following his retirement from the Navy Leonard was self-employed with his own pool service. He loved camping, fishing, and researching anything.

Leonard is survived by his wife, a sister, 7 children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
