The family of Van Phillip Welch has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Van Welch, 83, proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960, time that included duty stateside and in Korea.   For his service, Van was awarded the Sharpshooter (Carbine), Marksman (Rifle) and Good Conduct Medals.  At the time of his honorable discharge Van had attained the rank of SP5 (E-5).

In civilian life, Van went into social services where he worked with drug addicts, alcohol abusers and helped organize drug treatment facilities in the San Diego and Texas areas. He worked with the Orthodox Church helping addicts until he retired.
