The family of LCDR Marion Diller II, US Navy (Ret), has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor him for his service to our country. It would be our honor to do so.

LCDR Diller entered the Navy in 1947, lying about his age when he went in as an enlisted man.  He couldn't pass the physical to become an officer because he couldn't reach high enough, he was too short.  Eventually they dropped that requirement and he started moving up the ladder.  He went to college, graduated, and became an officer.  Enlisted to officer -- he was a mustang. His duty stations included: NAS North Island; Italy; NAS Miramar; Virginia Beach; Oak Harbor, WA; Adak, Alaska; Brownsville, TX; Marietta, GA; and attended school in Kansas.  He went to Japan on tour. LCDR Diller retired from military service October 1, 1981. His awards include the Good Conduct Medal (w/4 Bronze Stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (w/1 Bronze Star), and the National Defense Service Medal (w/1 Bronze Star).
He was actually retired twice … retired one day, canceled it that afternoon, went back to work the next morning … retired again, went to his luncheon, and started work with what is now L3com that same afternoon.  Post retirement he was the liaison between L3com and the Navy.  In the beginning, it was written into the contract between L3Com and the Navy for him to work for them because of his clearance. No one else fit his qualifications.

LCDR Diller loved sailing, coin collecting, tinkering, and spoiling his grandkids.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Diller, daughters: Susan Crane, Tonya Jennings and Katrina Moffatt.  Grandchildren -- Chris Craig, Kimberlyn Craig, Vivienne Jennings, Haley Jafek, Julianna Jafek, Isabelle Jennings and Joe Jafek and great grandchildren Alan Wilson, Taylor Craig, Riley Craig, Eli Craig.
