The family of Henry Thomas “Hank” Weldon has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Hank Weldon, 95, served his country in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945.  Hank was with the US Navy Reserves and with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) Maritime Unit (MU) Special Maritime Group-A (SG-A).  Hank was an Operative Swimmer OS/USN Underwater-Demolition Team Ten (UDT-10) in World War II and conducted many secretive missions, missions that his family said he would never talk about.  At the time he was called a “Specialist” which was an official designation for and by the USN.  He was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

After the war Hank joined the Los Angeles Police Department where he was a police officer for 26 years.  He retired to Valley Center in North San Diego County where he was a fixture in the community for many years.

Hank was preceded in death by his first wife Marg.  He is survived by Donna, his wife of 12 years, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He had one surviving brother, Rick Weldon of Oklahoma as well as his 3 step children.

The family has requested an accompaniment from the family home in San Marcos to a 1000 burial service at Hank’s final resting place, Valley Center Cemetery, a distance of approximately 20 miles.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the family home to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
