The family of Carlos Carrillo Hernandez has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to accompany them on his final journey.
Carlos joined the Navy in 1943 serving during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class in 1945. Carlos saw quite a bit of action on the Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, Philippines, Guam, New Guinea and Peleliu and also seeing action aboard the carrier escort USS Sangamon. Some of the awards that Carlos received included, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Carlos worked in construction. Many of the high rise buildings and highways in Los Angeles bear his initials. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking for his family, and according to his nephew Eddie Zaragoza, when attending a family party/gathering he would ask who had made the chile. If the answer was Tio Carlos, he knew he wasn’t eating chile that day… hot, hot, hot is how our Tio Carlos made his chile. Most of all he enjoyed visits from his family and sharing a cold beer with Bobby and Michael, his grandsons.
Carlos is survived by his wife Estella, his sisters, Rosa and Eva. He is also survived by his daughters, Olga, Leonar, and Monica, and son Edmund. He leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Carlos is preceded in death by his son George who was a Vietnam Veteran.

https://www.patriotguard.org/showthread.php?387841Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
