Part 1 of 2 Parts

The family and the U S Army have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present as their Hero, SFC Michael J. Tavares, is flown home to his family for burial, we will be honored to be there.

SFC Michael J. Tavares, age 38, was serving with the US Army in Belgium, he was attached to the HHC, 650th MILITARY INTELLIGENCE GROUP.  He had served 2 deployments in Iraq and 2 deployments in Kazakhstan. He had served nearly 20 years in the Army and was close to retirement.

SFC Tavares was sadly killed in a motorcycle accident in Belgium and will be coming home to his family in San Diego.

This is a tragic loss for his family, for his Army unit, and for all those who knew this great man and great soldier.  He will not be forgotten and will be sorely missed.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the airport to the mortuary, approx 18 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the mortuary, we will meet you there.
