The family of Luis J. Chavez and James J. Schickel, Sgt. Maj. USMC retired have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey.  It is our honor to do so.

Luis was born 18 January 1985 and passed on 01 July 2020.  Luis knew his destination in life was to be a United States Marine Infantryman when they came to visit his high school. He joined after graduation and  received his Mother's blessing, although he told her he would be a MP as not to worry her.  Luis served from 08 January 2006 to 01 August 2008.  He participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the infamous 3/5 Darkhorse Marines and participated in the battle of Fallujah.  Luis was discharged as a Lance Corporal.  His experiences took a heavy toll on Luis and was a different person after coming home.

He was a successful entrepreneur with Darkhorse Landscaping but continued to fight with his demons.  In 2012 he was taken under the wing of Sgt. Maj. Schickel who provided an ear and understanding of his experiences.  Sadly, despite Sgt. Maj. Schickel's best efforts Luis was not able to overcome his demons.

Luis was the middle child of seven.  He was known to be outgoing, loved spending time with his family and loved the water.

Luis is survived by his father Luis Sr., Siblings; Ivan, Vanessa, Griselda, Arturo, Ismael and Maumi.  His ex wife, Evelyn Chavez and son Czar and his girlfriend Emery Zengler and daughter Briseis.

Luis was loved by many.  We will honor Luis for his service and sacrifice and ask that you to honor him by keeping his memory alive.

This Hero passed away from combat related issues, there will be dog tags.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero.
