The family of SGT Tyler M. Shelton, age 22, and the US Army have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to the funeral of their Hero, we will be honored to be there.
SGT Tyler Shelton was serving with the US Army as part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) "Night Stalkers", out of Ft Campbell, KY. He was a helicopter repairer. He was engaged in training operations off the coast of So Calif when the Black Hawk they were flying went down and sadly SGT Shelton perished.
SGT Shelton enlisted in the Army in 2016 and had served a deployment to Afghanistan, he received the Army Good Conduct Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He will receive the Meritorious Service Medal posthumously.
Tyler was a graduate of Granite Hills High School in Apple Valley, CA where is was a defensive standout on the Varsity football team. It has been said that when Tyler Shelton was around, there was “never a dull (or) sad moment.” Tyler was so so full of life, he (was) cherished by all who he knew or met him. He was such a kind soul.
On the day that Tyler came home to Apple Valley as he was accompanied by the PGR, the Military and others, all the overpasses were covered with locals waving flags, fire departments honoring him, local Law Enforcement honoring him. His entire community came out to honor him and mourn his passing.
Apple Valley Mayor Scott Nassif, Town Manager Doug Robertson and members of the Town Council were also on hand.
“His death hit close to home for so many of us living here in Apple Valley,” Nassif said. “His death was a tragedy, but we will remember his legacy. We’re here to pay our respects and to present the family with a certificate.”
The Town Council closed its Sept. 1 meeting in memory of Sgt. Shelton, Nassif said.
Tyler is survived by his wife Alex, his parents, family, friends and his fellow soldiers, all of whom will miss him and he will never be forgotten.
