George A Schmitz, 74, USA, Vietnam, Phelan/RNC – 13 Jan

The family of George Anthony Schmitz, 74, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany him and his wife on their journey to their final resting place.  It will be our honor to do so.

George was born 5 Oct 1947 and left this earth to join other warriors in the Halls of Valhalla on 10 Dec  2020.

George served in the U. S. Army from 15 May 68 to 12 Apr 70 where he received the rank of SP4.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge.  George was also awarded the Bronze Star with V device for heroism in connection with military operations against a large enemy force with C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry.

After his service George earned his Bachelors Degree and worked as an Civil Engineer with the same company for 28 years.  He enjoyed skiing and shooting.

George is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Pearl Marie, in March of 2020.  He is survived by a son, Mike Schmitz, one sister, Susan, and a brother, Steven.  George did not have any grandchildren.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero from his the site noted below to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

1015 - Prepare Flag Line for our Heroe’s arrival ETA 1020.

1200 - ETA Riverside National Cemetery.

1230 - KSU to assigned shelter for Flag Line, Military Honors and Services.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
