The family of Edgar Dearth Hustead, 95, has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany him to his final resting place on Monday, March 29th. It will be our honor to do so.
Born 1926 in Hagerstown, Maryland, Edgar grew up in Buffalo, New York where he became a mechanic for Greyhound Bus, and a volunteer Firefighter.
Edgar served in the Army from June 29, 1944 to May 31, 1946 and was stationed in Central Europe with the 191st Battalion and 70th Ordinance Group as Field Artillery, Gun Crewman, and Heavy Truck Operator. He earned the Army Occupational Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He later reenlisted during the Korean War, September 5, 1950 to September 4, 1953, as a Mess Steward and was honorably discharged.
Subsequently, Edgar moved to California in 1963. He worked in the automotive supply business all his life until retirement in 1995 at the age of 70. He was very involved in the Menifee Senior Softball League and served as the commissioner for 20+ years. He was still playing softball at 93 years of age! The family is asking for an accompaniment from the church with a drive by Wheatfield Park where a baseball field was named in his honor.
Edgar is survived by his loving wife Linda of 35 years. He is also survived by 7 children: Darlene Granger, Wayne Hustead, Scot Hustead, Dacy Monroe, Kerry Hustead, Dru Hustead, and Shawnna Sparks; 3 stepchildren, Barry, Jody, and Steven; 21 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero from the church, to a park drive-by, and then to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
