The family of Charles Everett Abel has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
BT-2 Charles Everett joined the military in September of 1970 and served 4 years in the Navy.
Please read the write up below. His wife wrote this as a quick summary of his life. I love how she wrote this and feel it’s perfect to use:
Charles “Mr. Chuck” Everett Abel was born November 9, 1951 in Monte Vista Colorado, and his family moved to San Diego in 1956. His father had been a CB in the Navy, his oldest brother joined the Navy and when Chuck graduated high school in 1969, he kind of drifted for a year. Then because the Vietnam War & the draft was ramping up, in September 1970 he decided rather than be sent in to hand to hand combat, he’d join something safe like the Navy. He was actually in Boot Camp at the Great Lakes when he received his draft notice but by then he was secure. Once out of Boot Camp, he was assigned to the USS Ashtabula which was based out of Long Beach California. In the nearly 4 years he served as a BT-2, he made 2 Westpac cruises, & was released 2 months early so he could start his academics. But, as a BT the only condition to his early release was that he assist in the move of the ship from Long Beach to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Unlike his eldest brother, he never wanted to make the military career, but he did enjoy his time in the Navy, and came out of it with wonderful memories of places he might never have seen.
He made his career in Aerospace but never forgot his time on the high seas, & passed February 20, 2021.
