The family of Captain Kelly L. McComb has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero, for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Mr. McComb served his country in the United States Navy for 5 years, from 1981 through 1986. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Kelly continued to serve his country as a Federal Firefighter until he retired in 2016 at the rank of Captain.
Kelly joined the US Navy as a Hull Technician after high school in 1981 and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1986 and landed his first job out of service as a firefighter with the Federal Fire Department in Oahu, Hawaii. He was stationed at Station 15 in Schofield Barracks Army and then Station 14 in Wheeler Air Force Base. He later transferred to San Diego in 1988 and was assigned to fire stations on various military bases. Kelly retired as a Captain in August 2016 from the Federal Fire Department after 30 years of service. His last duty station was at Station 111 in Point Loma.
Kelly was born on February 19, 1963 in The Dalles, Oregon, but grew up in Penrose, a small rural town in Colorado. As a young boy, he was involved in the 4-H club and raised many different animals as he enjoyed the country life. Growing up the youngest of four boys Kelly learned to be tough, quick and resourceful to outdo and outrun his older brothers. Living in Hawaii he enjoyed the beach. He was a strong swimmer and liked body surfing and boogie boarding. Throughout his life, he held many interest from welding to deep sea diving to gardening to American history to tae kwon-do where he attained his black belt. He was a do-it-yourself kinda guy. He also enjoyed taking his Harley for a spin. He was a perfectionist, got things done and worked hard and played hard.
Kelly is survived by his children, Kevin and Nichol McComb (Nikki); his brothers, Wayne McComb (Doris) of Kearney, AZ and Pastor Michael McComb (Stephanie) of Lockhart, TX; and his sister-in-law Nancy McComb.
