Part 2 of 2 Parts

The family of Patrick Lee Hurley has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

SFC Patrick Hurley served two tours of duty in Vietnam in the US Army and was Wounded in Action each tour.   SFC Hurley's unit the 501st, was part of the very first battle fought by American Forces in Vietnam made famous in the movie "There Were Soldiers".  It is unknown if Patrick was wounded during that first battle, his unit landed at landing zone Bravo. However, the 501st did not leave Vietnam for months and was involved in fighting almost continuously during that time. After being wounded, SFC Hurley returned to the states and went into the Medical Reserves.

After Recovery, he was recalled and again shipped with his unit back to Vietnam and again was
wounded.  SFC Hurley received a Purple Heart for each time he was wounded.  He also received a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with "V" for Valor for his actions in Vietnam.  SFC Hurley's other medals include:  Vietnam Service Medal with "4" clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Airborne Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, among other medals and badges.

After his service in the Military, Pat worked as a Maintenance Engineer at several large Hotel chains in San Diego until retirement. Pat went to a San Diego high school, attended college at Kansas State University, and was an avid roller skater during his youth. Pat loved riding his motorcycle and was always a big supporter of the military. He also loved riding horses in his younger years. In later years he was a founding member of the PGR in the San Diego area in 2006, and was a Ride Captain for many years until his move, several years ago, to Texas. Pat was also a founding member of the American Legion Riders of National City, CA, Post 255.

Pat is pre-deceased by both his parents, his sister, and is survived by his loving wife Helen, many other family members, friends, and his PGR family.  Pat will never be forgotten.
