The family of Russell E. Blunk has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to join them as they bid a final farewell to their hero. We are honored and privileged to fulfill their request.

Russell was born on 7/29/46 and passed on 1/12/22 of lung cancer related to AO exposure while serving in Vietnam. He served in the Army from 1966-1968 and was discharged as a Sgt. E-5. He served with both the 82nd and 173rd Airborne Divisions. During his service to our country, our hero was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” device, the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. The Bronze Star was awarded after Russell went in to a village in the middle of a fire fight to pull his wounded Captain to safety.

As a civilian, Russell worked for 34 years in telecommunications for several phone companies. His hobbies included classic cars, building model ships and was a huge NASCAR fan. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Christine, his daughter Cindy, son Russell and grandson Bret.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
