The family of Colonel Daniel Francis Alves Jr., age 80, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their Hero at his funeral service. We are privileged to do so.
Daniel Francis Alves Jr was Born in Pomona, California on May 12, 1941 to Daniel Francis Alves Sr. and Alice Alves, and sadly Passed away February 10, 2022.
After graduating high school, Dan attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1964. An ROTC student, he attended Officer Training School for the U.S. Air Force and then enlisted and began his Air Force career.
He was stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he met and married naval officer Ruth Ann. Shortly after, Dan was sent to Viet Nam where he served honorably. After his return, the family made a home in California and happily welcomed their first daughter, Alicia Ann. Their second daughter followed shortly after, Suzanne Marie. It was during this time that Dan received his first graduate degree, a Master of Science in Systems Management from University of Southern California in June of 1970.
In 1972, Dan was stationed from Norton Air Force Base to Vandenberg, and the family moved north and settled in the Santa Maria Valley. Two years later Daniel Francis Alves III was born. Shortly after the birth of his only son, Dan’s active military service ended and he briefly joined the private sector before joining the Department of Defense, Strategic Air Command, at Vandenberg, where he served until retirement.
After leaving his active duty post, Dan remained a reserve member of the United States Air Force until his retirement as a full Colonel. During his term of service, he received several awards in recognition of his contributions and commendations from sitting Presidents from President Jimmy Carter to President Clinton.
Constantly in pursuit of more knowledge, he earned his second graduate degree, a Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University in 1981. Throughout his life, he continued his educational and intellectual pursuits, which efforts were recognized by the American Cornerstone University, who bestowed him with an honorary degree of Doctorate of Military Science in 1997.
Dan’s wife, Ruth Ann, passed away in 1982 and in 1984 he married Mary Patricia Brady Alves, with whom he shared the rest of his days.
Dan was one-of-a-kind and will be sorely missed by his wife, Mary, and his family, Alicia, Suzanne, Peggy, KT, Mike, and his many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is greeted in the afterlife by his wife Ruth Ann, his son Danny, his parents, and his brother David.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
