The family of Steve Moerschell has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Steve Joined the Navy in January of 1970, during the draft for Vietnam. During his time in the Navy he was stationed on the USS Ranger, and then stationed at NAS Miramar working on the F4 radar equipment. After serving two deployments he decided to get out of the Navy in 1979 to be at home with his wife and kids more. He was honorably discharged at the rank of QA2.
Steve was hired by General Dynamics three days after his last day of active-duty service. Steve went on to work for General Dynamics as an electronics technician for 27 years. General Dynamics changed names several times while Steve was employed with them. When Steve retired from there, he found a new interest in being a volunteer sheriff for the city of Santee.
Steve was voted volunteer of the month in 2014 and then volunteer of the year in 2015. He spent 7 years as a volunteer and only left due to having back surgery.
Steve married his wife Judith on April 18th of 1970 and they moved to Tennessee for one year. In 1971 Steve and Judy moved to San Diego and had their first child, Stacey in 1972. They bought a house and moved to Santee in 1974. In 1977 they had their second child, a son, Kenneth. Steve and Judy enjoyed camping, going on long drives and soccer games with the whole family. Steve was very proud of his family and always had a story to tell about them. Steve loved being involved in anything that involved family.
Steve joined the Patriot Guard in 2019 with his wife Judy and his daughter Stacey and his son-in-law Paul, both are Patriot Guard Ride Captains. They attended every mission they could in their car, happy to follow the motorcycles when it was possible.
In June of 2021, Steve had an 8 vertebrae fusion to his back and had a tough recovery. In December the doctors discovered that he had a massive heart attack. Even with trying medication Steve just could not come back from this and passed on January 18th, 2022.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Judy, his daughter Stacey, his son Kenneth, grandchildren and many other family members, friends, and his PGR family. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
There will be a celebration of life for Steve at the VFW in Santee immediately following the service and all are invited. There will be lunch served for all provided, and there will be drinks available for purchase. VFW, 8516 N Magnolia Ave Ste 203, Santee, CA 92071
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the chapel service to his final resting place (approx 15 miles). Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
