The family of Thomas Raymond Flury, Jr., age 52, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.
Tom served in the US Navy from March 27, 1989 to September 1, 1993 as a Naval Hospital Corpsman. Upon his discharge from active duty, he transferred to the Naval Reserves until March 1, 1997. During his time in the service, Tom was honored to be selected by his 60-man company to be Guide-on throughout his duration at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton. He was also recognized by his Commanding Officer and presented a commendation for performance of duties in a superior manner as an emergency field technician. He received a Meritorius Unit Commendation by the Commanding General for superior performance of duty as the Marine Corps 1st Force Service Support Group while serving as lead Petty Officer. He also received the National Defense Service Medal.
Tom loved sports, especially football. He played for his high school and was also proud to play for the Navy. He especially loved watching college football and his favorite team was USC. After serving in the Navy, Tom worked as a trainer in the fitness field and eventually owned his own gym. He then went on to work in the family construction business as a Project Manager. His hobbies were family camping and boating at the Colorado River, riding his side by side he hauled with his fifth wheel to Dumont Dunes and Glamis.
Tom is survived by his sister, Tamara Gail (Flury) Salisbury; 3 children: son, Joshua Thomas Flury; and two daughters, Erin Paige Flury, and Byrce Taylor Flury; and 5 grandchildren.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the church/mortuary/airport to the cemetery, approx 10 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
