The family of John Charles Hammond, age 76, and our own PGR brother Jim "The Mayor" Frost, a close friend of the Hero, have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present at his final services to honor him.  It will be our privilege to do so.

John Hammond enlisted in the US Navy on October 1, 1964 shortly after graduating High School.  He served proudly, much of his time off the coast of Vietnam, his last ship serving on was the USS Ticonderoga. John was an Electronics Technician Mechanic and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, the Navy Unit Commendation medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device.  He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1968 at the rank of ETR3.

After serving in the military John worked at the Libbey Glass factory as a machine mechanic until retirement.  In his spare time John loved history and reading and long walks in the park with his beloved dog Zack.

John is survived by 2 living children Julie Newbury and William Hammond, 1 deceased child John Hammond, and 8 grandchildren. Also many other family members and friends who dearly loved him, he will be forever missed and never forgotten.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the funeral home to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. We will meet you there for those who would instead go directly to the Cemetery.

We ride to honor those who stood for us.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to participate in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, and you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or wear casual attire if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
