The family of Colonel Fred Romero, 90, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.   It will be our privilege to do so.

Colonel Romero served 31 years in the United Marine Corps. From February of 1953 to July of 1984. Fred joined the Marines right out of high school. Fred received his BA from Adams State where he was valedictorian of his class. He had a double major in mathematics and sociology.

As a second lieutenant, Fred was sent to Korea where he served as a forward observer. After he returned to Camp Pendleton he met his first wife, Jean. Fred retired a full Colonel after 31 years.

After retirement, Fred began teaching high school mathematics in Colorado. During this time, he also extended his schooling and obtained a MS in mathematics but that still wasn’t enough.  Fred went on to obtain his doctorate in 1966.

In 1967, Fred joined the US Department of Labor where he remained until he retired.  Most of Fred’s retirement time was spent with his son renovating homes in Washington. In 2011, Fred and his wife moved to California to be closer to family.

Fred is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol Romero; son, Fred; and daughters, Debbie and Cynthia.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister.
