The family of Jackie M. Voelkl has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their loved one.  We are honored to do so.

Ms. Voelkl served in Women’s Army Air Corp later called WAC. She served from 1942 – 1945. She was a Sergeant Major when discharged --first female Sgt Maj of Women's Army Air Corps of Cadets. She was awarded; WAAC ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal.

In civilian life Jackie and her husband started “Official Publications, Inc.”, a company that eventually published several veteran organization-owned periodicals.

Her interests were golf; travel and included being Mission Viejo’s VFW Post 6024 as their first female commander. She spoke at many high schools on her experiences during WWII and participating with Honors Guard at many funerals for veterans. She headed up the Marine Corps Reserve program, Toys for Tots, at her post. She adopted a U.S. Marine Reserve helicopter squadron serving in Afghanistan, collecting and shipping items needed there. She served many years as Mission Viejo’s VFW Post 6024 Chaplain until she resigned due to health reasons. In August, 2009, she was nominated by her Post to be “Woman Veteran of the Year” to be awarded at the Women Veterans Conference, hosted by Women and Minority Veterans Affairs, a branch of the California Department of Veterans Affairs.

Her husband, Jim, passed away in 1984. She is survived by her son Jim and her daughter Carol and also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren
