The family of John Robert (Bob) Limpus has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Bob served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp 1941 – 1945.  Bob is a member of the “Greatest Generation” and served in WWII. Bob was in the South Pacific that included time in Australia and New Zealand from March 1942 to May 1942.  The short duration was due to injury (broke left shoulder) from a rolling a troop carrier (Bob was driver) on a built dirt road, night operation, in the mountains of New Zealand. His name is on the memorial for AmTracs at the museum on Camp Pendleton.

After his honorable discharge, Bob went to work for Arrowhead Water Company in San Diego as a delivery driver and moved up to route supervisor and finally plant manager. He then moved on to work for several termite companies in San Diego such as Dewey Pest Control, an inspector for San Diego Exterminating, and finally Terminex.

Later in 1961 Terminex layed him off and Bob became a Counselor at El Camino Memorial Park.  Eventually, he and late wife Dorie Limpus started San Diego Pet Memorial Park in June of 1962.  The memorial park was operated until sold in 1998, when Bob then retired.

Bob was an avid motorcycle enthusiast as far back as July of 1941 with a 1939 H-D 61 OHV up until selling his last Goldwing.  He owned 7 Goldwings from the 1000 up to the 1800 and logged roughly 40K miles a year with various friends and groups.  A good few of them included his son John and grandsons Carl and Jeffrey.  Bob was also an active Toast Master participant from 60s thru to the late 90s.  Another passion of Bob was writing poetry and passages.  At last count it was in the thousands of pages of content.

Bob is preceded by his loving wife Dorie, and survived by 3 children John, Carole, and Diane.  He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The family is requesting an accompaniment from Fallbrook to Miramar National Cemetery, this is very special to the family as the staging location in Fallbrook was Bob's favorite location for a meet-up place on motorcycle rides, Bob will be given his "last ride".

NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying our Hero and his family from Fallbrook to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. We will meet you there for those who would rather go directly to the cemetery.

We encourage those who do not ride to participate in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, where you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
