The family of Edward “Wayne” Oberlander, 73, has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany him on his journey to his final resting place.  It will be our honor to do so.

Wayne, as he was known, proudly served in the United States Navy from 06 Feb 1967 to 06 Nov 1970.  Wayne is a Vietnam Era veteran and served as a boilermaker aboard the USS Samuel Gompers.   Wayne was an E-3 at the time of his Honorable Discharge.  He was awarded the National Defense Medal.

After his service to our country, Wayne was a general foreman for a mechanical contractor for over 27 years.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Diane, and four sons, Ron, Jason, Joseph and Kevin, along with twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, approximately 58 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

NOTE: Temperatures are warming up.  Please keep hydrated.
