The family of Lawrence James Young has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Lawrence proudly served from Sept 1971 to Sept 1992 in the US Navy and achieved the rank of E9 – MMCM/Command Master Chief.  He served on the following ships: USS Mount Whitney, USS Denver, USS Blue Ridge, USS Point Defiance, USS England, USS Leahy, USS Durham  - Served as Command Master Chief during the Desert Storm War, then retired.  He earned his unlimited Chief Engineer License as well as the following medals and ribbons:  Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 awards), Kuwait Liberation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (4 awards), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Rifle Ribbon, and the Navy Pistol Ribbon.

Following his career in the Navy, he served with the Merchant Marines where he sailed as a First, Second, and Third Engineer aboard steam and motor ships. He became a member of the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA), where he was elected Patrolman in 2008, 2009, and 2010. In 2008, he was appointed the Los Angeles Branch Agent and the West Coast Executive Vice President in 2010. In total, he accumulated 38 years of seagoing service.  Work was everything, but family was so much more. As a father, he would do anything for “His
Girls!”  When the time came for him to become Grandpa the sky was the limit. If he could have given them the world, he would have! He attended every awards assembly, every promotion, even parent meetings! He loved every minute of being a grandpa!!

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Brigitte Young; daughters, Melanie Negrete, and Melissa Young; grandchildren, Valerie Negrete, and Carlos Arias; siblings, Lorraine Bender, Leonard Young, Steven Young; stepsisters Mary Parke, Sara Barrette, Iona Partlow, Cassie Seifrit, and
stepbrother Joseph Seifrit.

The family is requesting an accompaniment from the funeral home to Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 20 miles.
