The family of Captain Angeline G. Liakos, age 94, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero for her service to her country. It will be our privilege to do so.
This is quite a unique story. Angeline was a nurse in the Navy during Vietnam and cared for a soldier named John Baca. John Baca is a Medal of Honor recipient, and a very dear friend to many of us in the So Cal area of the PGR. She took such good care of him in 1970 that when Angeline fell ill just a short time ago, John made sure he would take care of her! Angeline passed just two weeks ago on October 8, 2022.
Angeline was the daughter of George and Victoria Liakos born in Bayard Nebraska on April 15th 1928. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1946. She then attended University of Nebraska and graduated with a BS in Secondary education in 1950, and graduated from the University of Nebraska school of nursing 1953. She taught at the school of nursing in 1954 in Scottsbluff Nebraska. She later attended graduate school at the University of Colorado.
Angeline enlisted in the US Navy Nurse Corp in 1958 where she initiated the Navy nurse practitioner program. She served 24 years in the United States Navy. She served 13 of those years in San Diego California. Other duty stations were Taipei Taiwan and Bethesda Maryland where she planned conferences and workshops for the Navy Nurse Corp. She was also a Family Nurse Practitioner in Memphis Tennessee. She advanced to the rank of Captain when she retired in 1983 from the Navy.
Angeline moved back to San Diego in 2003 where she lived the remainder of her life. She predeceased her 5 brothers Leo, Thomas, Gus, William, John, and sister Ann. She was known for her whit and sense of humor.
