The family of Fred Nathan Johnson has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Fred Johnson served proudly in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1979. Fred served at least one tour in Vietnam. Fred passed away ten years ago, but Betty has recently decided that Fred’s rightful place is to be at Miramar where his children and grandchildren can visit him.
Fred entered the Navy on November 28, 1958 and went from boot camp to Hawaii. During his time, he received 5 good conduct medals. He served as a Teletype Repairman and retired as a Chief.
Just before Fred left for Hawaii, he met Betty. Betty was babysitting for his younger sister, and he fell for her right away. Betty and Fred kept in touch for two years through letters, and when Betty spoke of joining the Air Corps, he said he wouldn’t have that and mailed her an engagement ring. As soon as Fred returned from Hawaii they got married and had two children.
Fred and Betty have 6 grandsons that Fred was very close to and adored. Since Fred has passed there have been 13 great grandchildren added to the family!
After military service Fred went on to college and then worked for the Military teaching what he had learned during his service, Teletype Repair. Fred loved sports and played softball for many years and loved to play golf.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the chapel service to his final resting place approx. 14 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
