The family of Terry Lee Hobbs, aka Papa-T, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present as he makes his final journey to his resting place. It will be our honor to fulfill their request.
Terry was born 01 June 1948 in Richmond Indiana, and passed away peacefully with his family 15 June 2023. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who brought joy and laughter to everyone he met.
Terry enlisted in the US Air Force on 01 November 1969 shortly after he graduated high school. He then served four years active duty, then fulfilled his enlistment with two years Reserves in which he was honorably discharged 01 June 1973 at Travis AFB, Fairfield CA at the rank of Sergeant. During his enlistment he was an Air Freight Specialist stationed in Vietnam at Tan Son Khut Airport performing various tasks that our current airports are not familiar with. His awards and citations included The Humanitarian Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Commendation Service Medal, and Air Force Achievement Medal.
During Terry’s civilian life he worked as a Maintenance Mechanic on Aerospace Equipment for the next 30 years.
His hobbies, interests, and passions were numerous. He was an avid Harley rider who also performed numerous missions and support with the American Legion Riders, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Patriot Guard Riders. His mechanical abilities were endless. When he wasn’t fixing things, he was on his computer looking for a good deal on bikes, cars, and equipment. He loved having projects that most would not fathom such as a small engine powered bar stool with a steering wheel, and weed eater motor on a cooler he tooled around on. You literally would have to take a second or third look to believe what just wheeled past you with his ear-to- ear grin! His humor was off the charts. Wherever he went he brought joy and laughter. He loved dancing, singing Karaoke, and being with his friends and family. His ideas were enormous, as was his heart. He organized numerous car and bike shows, along with some of his own entries, one on which was a Volkswagen bug with a blown small block Chevy engine mounted in the front. He also loved camping (glamping), boating, and was a proud supporter of his community, and all veterans organizations that he has been in contact with.
Terry is survived by his wife, Helen; his mother, Jean; his sister, Patty; two daughters, Christine and Tiffany Ann; as well as four stepdaughters, Angel, Diane, Tammy, and Lisa. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Terry will be remembered as funny, adventurous, and a loving man who touched the lives of all who knew him. His unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and country will serve as an inspiration to those who carry his legacy.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the American Legion Post 200 to the cemetery, approximately 30 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
