The family of William (Bill) Bauer, Jr., age 80, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Bill served in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force from 17 November 1967 to 31 August 1982.  He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars and received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal-Army, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon 2 Oak Leaf  Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal 1 Silver Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Device, Republic of Vietnam Campain Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal 4 Oak Leaf Clusters.  Bill was Honorably Discharged as an E-6.

After his military service, Bill worked as Security Guard.  He was also an Ordained Minister.  Bill was very involved in his local VFW Post 888 located in Perris, CA.  He was a Past Commander, Quartermaster and Chaplain at this post.  He also was involved in the VFW at the district level, and was the Past VFW District 23 and District 3 Chaplain.

Bill is survived by his wife Lea Bauer, his son Billie Bauer, and one grandchild.  He will also be remembered by his many friends both in and out of the VFW.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the American Legon Post 595 in Perris, CA, to the cemetery, approx 9 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
