Jack Botts, 97, USN, WWII/Korea - FLO/RNC - 07 FEB 2024
« on: February 01, 2024, 09:31:45 PM »
The family of Jack Botts has requested the assistance of the Patriot Guard Riders in honoring their hero on the occasion of his final military honors at Riverside National Cemetery.  We will proudly accommodate that request.

Jack served in the United States Navy and USNR for 8-1/2 years.  Upon his honorable separation from his military service, he was a Motorman Machinist Mate 1st Class - Diesel.  He served on USS LST 803 and USS Sanders.  His service was from June 1943 - December 1951.  Our hero earned WWII Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and Korean Service Medal.  At the end of WWIIm he processed ships in Seattle as they were decommissioned.  Ironically, he also processed those same ships as they were recommissioned for Korea.

Following his service in the USN, our hero continued his mechanical skills at his gas service station he owned for 50 years while supplementing his income selling Mac Tools.  He was a workaholic but enjoyed fishing.  He was the neighborhood go-to guy for anything mechanical needing repair, notably kids bicycles.

Our hero is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby-June, whom he met while stationed in Seattle.  Jack is survived by their daughters, Lori Hanson and Liane Oaks, and his 90-year-old sister, Rosemary Beasley.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, this is a flag line only (FLO) mission at Riverside National Cemetery.  For those who would like to participate, please see the timetable and we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
