The family of Sgt Brian H. Alvarado have requested the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their Hero from the church to Riverside National Cemetery for his military honors.  It will be our honor to participate in this accompaniment.

Sgt Brian H. Alvarado served in the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Battalion 11th Marines.  He served two tours in Iraq.  His second deployment was in 2005 and he returned in April of 2006.  Brian served eight years in the Marine Corps.  During his deployments, Brian patrolled and supervised burn pits in Iraq, getting rid of everything from plastics and metals to chemicals and human waste.  In December of 2007, he was diagnosed with cancer.  By February 2008 he began a new battle with squamous cell carcinoma, in his neck and throat, at the age of 27.  Ultimately, the cancer spread resulting in Brian breathing through a trach and receiving nourishment through a feeding tube.

During this time, even when Brian wasn’t feeling well, he and his family never gave up.  Right up to when Brian was last hospitalized, he, Rocio, and Rhianna would spend their time helping others - either with the homeless Veterans or people on skid row.

A close friend, William “Monsoon” Mimiaga, said “They are truly ‘God's Shepherds.’  Brian loved fast cars, car shows and also loved our Corps and our President.  A wise Marine who, with a wry sense of humor that never diminishes, lifts all of our spirits.”

Brian is survived by his wife, Rocio, and his daughter, Rhianna, as well as a multitude of friends.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church to RNC of approximately 60 miles.  Please see the timetable if you would like to participate.  For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
