The family of James “Biker Jim” DeFries, 73, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the military honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey.  It will be our honor to do so.

Jim enlisted in the United States Navy on 25 June 1968, and was honorably discharged 26 September 1972 as a Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class (MM3).  While on deployment during the Vietnam Conflict, Jim was assigned to Patrol Boat Riverine (PBR), maintaining the operation of this unit, along with numerous other tasks and responsibilities as these boats at times were far too undermanned.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

After his military service, Jim worked as a forklift mechanic specializing in all aspects of mechanical repairs and operations.

Jim’s hobbies, and passions consisted of drag racing, performance engine building, riding his Harley Davidson, hanging with his friends/comrades, and he loved teaching his children to ride dirt bikes.

Jim is predeceased by his wife, Roselyn.  He is survived by children, William, Christy, and Chad; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.  He is also survived by siblings Roger, Robert, Betty, and Marvin.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
