The family of Barrett Charles Hoyle, United States Army veteran have asked the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany them as they lay their loved one to rest.

Barry was born in San Jose, California on November 20, 1946, to parents Benjamin and Loretta (Weltz) Hoyle. He graduated from Palmdale High School’s class of 1965. A proud veteran, Barry served three years in the Army shortly after high school where he achieved the rank of Specialist 5th Class (E-5).

Barry was a maintenance mechanic for McDonnell Douglas and Boeing, retiring after 25 years. His real passions were drag racing, motorcycle riding, and fishing. In his spare time, Barry preferred to be at the drag strip, helping friends with their cars when he wasn’t working on his own dragster, or rescuing his kids from roadside breakdowns. Barry was an expert fisherman who seemed happiest on a riverbank with a creel full of trout. He tried to impart those skills to his son as well, to no avail. Barry, along with his wife Holly and friends, took numerous motorcycle trips all over the American West. He also loved to absolutely spoil his Airedale terriers.

Despite his gruff exterior, Barry was kind and patient and occasionally hilarious and mischievous.

Barry is survived by his wife Holly, daughter Justine (Mark), son Gavin (Claire), and granddaughters Scout and Reed and by his brothers Larry (Brenda), David, and George, by his mother-in-law JoAnne, and by his brothers-in-law Daniel (Julie) and Jim.

Barry will be laid to rest with military honors at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, California July 12, 2024, at 10:00AM.

As you all may know Barry was a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy and we would be remiss if we didn’t ask all of you to dress just as comfortably in his honor.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the funeral home to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would like to go directly to the Cemetery, we will meet you there.

Special Note: "The weather is predicted to be Very Warm, please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat. It can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat."
