The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family and friends of George Raul Torres Sr, 76, to attend final military honors of their hero.  It will be our privilege to fulfill their request.

In July 1965, at the age of 18, George joined the United States Army and served three years, until July 1968.  He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne and served in Operation Bonnie Burch in the Dominican Republic in 1967. He later went on to serve in the US National Guard for 12 years and Air Force Reserves for another 3 years.  His military assignments provided him the opportunity to travel to 5 countries and 20 states, with the best place being an assignment in Okinawa, Japan.  He received honorable discharges from all military assignments.

Several life-changing events for George were the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy.  Sadly, it also included losing three close friends in Viet Nam.  George spoke of them often and would visit them every Memorial Day at Resurrection Cemetery, where he will now be laid to rest.

George had several long-term jobs before working for the US Treasury as an Internal Revenue Treasury Agent for over 25 years.  After his retirement, he opened his own income tax and notary service.

He enjoyed golfing and working in the yard and on his house.  He enjoyed watching westerns and war movies.  He loved mentoring young football players and coached Pop Warner and high school football for many years.  He was always happy when UCLA beat USC in any sport.  Most importantly, George was a family man and loved his family.

George is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters, Salina and Christina; and son, George.  He also leaves behind 7 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 5 great-grandsons, and one brother.  He will be missed by many nieces and nephews as well as friends.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, this is a flag line only (FLO) mission at the cemetery.  For those who would like to participate, please see the timetable and we will meet you there.
