At the request of the family, the Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to attend the funeral service and military honors of Fernie Carlos as he is laid to rest. It will be our privilege to attend.
“Ferndog,” as he was known by family, friends, and coworkers, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1977. As a radio operator and Marine Corps Paratrooper, he was deployed off the Indian Ocean during the ill-fated Operation Eagle Claw, aka, "Desert One" in 1980. He was honorably discharged in 1981, reaching the rank of Corporal, and earning the USMC paratrooper gold wings, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Expert badge.
After his exit from the Marine Corps, Fernie began employement with Southern California Edison and worked as a lineman for over 35 years, working on high-voltage transmission lines. He loved his job because “it took him to new heights” and “he loved reaching for the stars.”
In his downtime, Fernie enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was an avid rider; he loved baseball, football, basketball, and fishing. Fernie was known for his sense of humor, being a humble man, was a hard worker, loved being a Marine, but more importantly being a family man and father to his daughter.
Fernie is survived by his only child, daughter, Jesslyn Carlos, as well as brothers Richardo, Armando, and Henry, and one sister, Terry. He will be missed by many friends and SCE coworkers.

1355: Flag line as hero is moved from the chapel to the coach.
1400: Procession from cemetery to hero’s home/neighborhood 4 miles away and return back to the cemetery.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
