The family of Nelson Morales has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the military honors of their loved one.  It will be our privilege to fulfill their request.

Nelson served in the United States Army from 04/03/44 to 08/27/1946. Our hero was born and raised in Puerto Rico and enlisted in the United States Army to be able to come to the mainland US and become a voting citizen. He was in training for the invasion of Japan when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The war ended six days later with the surrender of Japan.  Our hero earned the American Theater Service Medal and WWII Victory medal. At the time of his honorable discharge Nelson was a Private First Class.

Following his proud service to America our hero was employed as an AC/HVAC specialist at La Sierra University. He retired from there after 25 years. He enjoyed woodworking and was the neighborhood fix-it guy. He was also an Amateur Radio Operator (“Ham”).  Nelson passed one month prior to his 99th birthday due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Nelson was preceded by his wife of 69 years, Elisa Morales ten years ago. She was the love of his life and he will be joining her at Riverside National Cemetery. He was survived by their daughters, Virginia Minder and Carol Morales, son- in-law Wallace Minder, and Nelson’s 100 year old sister, Livia Quintero. He will be missed by his two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
